Burundi newspapers
Out of some 40 newspapers that used to be published between August 1991 and June 1996, only four of them are still regularly published. They are the French language national daily
Le Renouveau du Burundi which is controlled by the state, the private weekly
L'Avenir published since July 1st, 1997 which mainly deals with information and the analysis of the news, the
Ubumwe which is a
kirundi language weekly published by the state and the semi-monthly
Ndongozi y'Uburundi
owned by the Catholic Church.
In addition a few papers are still published but very irregularly such as the (supposedly) semi-monthly Le Patriote.
Generally speaking yet, the press is still tightly controlled by the state, and unfortunately none of these have a website.
Finally we can note that several papers are published in Kirundi language.
